Nigeria defeat Sweden, progress to quarters

Nigeria’s Dream Team on Sunday progressed to the quarter-finals at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament of Rio 2016 after a 1-0 victory over Sweden in Group B.
Sadiq Umar header in the 40th minute at the Amazonia Arena in Manaus ensured maximum six points from two games.
For a large part of the match both sides played conservatively, but it was Nigeria who looked more threatening in attack.

Fresh from scoring four goals last time out, Oghenekaro Etebo attempted several shots in the half — with his right foot, left foot and with his head. But he was unable to get the better of Sweden goalkeeper Andreas Linde, who seemed well prepared for him.
Nigeria eventually found the opener six minutes from time, when Stanley Amuzie delivered a pinpoint, curling cross in open play from the left wing which found Umar.
The AS Roma player made no mistake, scoring with a diving header for the African under-23 champions.
They continued their dominance in the second half, with captain Mikel Obi firing a well-driven shot from the top of the area, which was well saved by Linde.
The Swedish goalkeeper had to be alert four minutes later when Etebo dribbled inside the corner of the penalty box and attempted a curling effort, but Linde once again saved.
Coach Hakan Ericson used all three of his substitutes — Ken Sema, Muamer Tankovic and Jacob Une Larsson – to try and give his team a new dimension.
But, in the end, Nigeria’s backline was up to the challenge and held on for all three points.
On Wednesday, Nigeria will close out group play against Colombia in Sao Paulo.
Sweden meanwhile have a must-win match ahead against Japan in Salvador if they are going to continue their Rio 2016 journey.

Ironically, the current balance of $25.9 billion is worth about 80% more than what it was in Naira following the depreciation of the naira after it was floated. The CBN has in the past few days ramped up sales of dollars at the interbank in the hope that it will create liquidity in a market that is yawning gape to swallow forex after nearly almost two years of intense rationing by the CBN. The Naira weakened to its lowest ever at the interbank after it closed at about N362.5/$1 in midday trading. The Naira will eventua...

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola , on Thursday said in Lagos that gas alone could not bring the much needed increase in power supply in the country. Fashola spoke as guest speaker through Chinedu Ugbo , acting Chairman, Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), at the 2016 Annual Conference of the National Association of Energy Correspondents in Lagos. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the conference is entitled: “Low oil price: Impact and the way forward” . Fashola said, “It is not gas alone that will allow us to achieve incremental power”. “It is our most reliable source of power, yes, but it is only one solution among many other underutilised solutions. Mambila Power Station, for example, is likely to be our most defining in the road to incremental power, situated in Taraba State. It will potentially add 3,000MW to the grid and yet this is a hydro-electric project, not gas. Our ministry has recently publicis...
